Guide Tubes
Access to the engine is gained through one of a series of ports in the combustion chamber. Rigid, curved guide tubes are carefully inserted and rotated to the correct position; hinged and flexible guide tubes are inserted in a straightened condition, after which they are allowed to return to their curved configuration for insertion of the borescope. By viewing through various ports, all the internal features of an object can be inspected. Guide tubes, such as those provided by NDTech, are used by all major aircraft service organizations and manufacturers, including Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Grumman, Continental, and Avco Lycoming. Guide tubes can be made to accommodate borescopes of all diameters to negotiate many complex paths through an aircraft engine. |   |
